The Port of Bodo is located in north-central Norway at the entrance to Salt Fjord. This commercial fishing center specializes in drying cod, but the Port of Bodo also contains a brewery and shipyards. So near the North Pole, people in the Port of Bodo have the midnight sun for about a month during the months of June and July. In 2007, over 45 thousand people called the Port of Bodo home.
The Port of Bodo was founded by merchants from Trondheim merchants and chartered in 1816. Receiving recognition as a municipality in 1838, it is the county seat of Nordland and North Norway’s second largest city today.
