The Port of Salaya is a minor port in the Jamnagar district of India’s state of Gujarat. About 73 kilometers southwest of the city of Jamnagar, almost 27 thousand people lived in the Port of Salaya in 2001.
Until the late 19th Century when the Port of Bedi was established, Salaya was Jamnagar’s main port. Today, the Port of Salaya is an all-weather lighterage port supporting sailing ships and country craft.
Famous for traditional businesses supporting trade by sailing vessels, most of the Port of Salaya’s people are involved with that trade whether they build the ships or make commercial trips upon them. Most of the vessels built in the Port of Salaya are of the dhow type.
The Gujarat Maritime Board is the port authority for the Port of Salaya.
