While Port St. Joe was at one time a busy boom town, today it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the white-sand dune beach.
Port St. Joe has a humid subtropical climate with long hot summers and short mild winters. Temperatures range from an average high of 33°C (91°F) from June through August to an average low of 3°C (37°F) in January.
Visitors to Port St. Joe will want to check out the Constitution Convention Museum State Park where they can learn about Florida when it was a territory and its leaders met here to create a state constitution.
The Port St. Joe Marina offers many opportunities for fun through Seahorse Water Safaris. Charter fishing offerings include party boats, charter boats, and fishing guides. Sailing charters are available to enjoy Saint Joseph Bay. Recreational divers can explore the area's shipwrecks, the artificial reef, and spear fishing. Families can snorkel the saltwater grass flats in the bay or enjoy bay cruises. Boat and kayak rentals are also available.
Located on the arm of land that creates Saint Joseph Bay and opposite the Bay from Port St. Joe, the T.H. Stone Memorial Saint Joseph Peninsula State Park offers one of the best beaches in the United States. Water-related activities that are popular at the park include snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing, canoeing, and kayaking. Visitors can camp, fish, hike, and bike on the barrier peninsula where more than 240 species of birds have been sighted.
Campers can choose from a full-facility campground near the beach or primitive campsites in the wilderness. There are also eight cabins on the bay that are available for overnight stays. There are a total 116 sites available including the cabins, 85 RV or tent pads, 12 RV- or trailer-only sites, and 11 tent-only sites. The accessible boat launch ramp is located on the bay side of the peninsula. Visitors will find picnic areas, restrooms, electrical hook-ups, hiking and backpack trails, a beach shower house, a boardwalk, a fish-cleaning station, fire rings and campsites for groups, a playground, potable and pressurized water, and a recycling center.
