The City of Miami enjoys a tropical climate with hot humid summers and warm dry winters. The recorded average monthly temperature for the Port of Miami has never dipped below 18 °C (64 °F) or exceeded 37 °C (98 °F). Hot summer days are often relieved by afternoon thunderstorms or by the Atlantic sea breeze. The Port of Miami has one of the highest levels of rainfall in the United States, with most of the rain falling between May and October. First on the list of things to see and do are the famous and popular Port of Miami beaches. With over 16 public beaches, the Port of Miami offers almost unlimited sun and surf. South Beach is the classic Miami beach. Topless bathing is allowed. Paved jogging paths run along the beach, and many of Miami Beach's most popular nightclubs are just across the street. Virginia Key Beach, near the Miami Seaquarium, is easy to get to. While it is sometimes crowded, there are secluded areas for the more adventurous explorers.

Bill Baggs State Park is at the south end of Key Biscayne and houses the Cape Florida lighthouse. Sun-lovers can enjoy the sand and water; history-lovers can tour the lighthouse; and fishing enthusiasts can fish from the seawall. Everyone will enjoy the full-service restaurant. Homestead Bayfront Park is far away from the tourist route in south Miami Dade County. It offers both swimming and a full service marina.
