Port of Sand Point
Cruising and Travel

The Port of Sand Point population of 950 permanent residents is more than half Aleut or Unangan. Commercial fishery operations cause seasonal population growth as people come to work in the fishing fleet. The Port of Sand Point has a wonderful hiking trail system and offers many opportunities for camping, sport fishing, sea kayaking, and many more outdoor activities.

The Port of Sand Point enjoys a maritime climate with relatively warm winters and cool summers. Average temperatures range from a high of 14°C (57°F) in July and August to a low of -2.8°C (27°F) in February. The Port of Sand Point gets about 44 inches of rain and 52 inches of snow each year.

In July, the Port of Sand Point plays host to a Culture Camp where Aleut traditions of dance, sewing, drum playing, kayak building, and weaving are taught.
