The City of Chiba is basically a suburb of mega-city Tokyo. It is an industrial city with a large, busy port and many plants and manufacturing facilities. While it is not a popular tourist destination, there are attractions in the area.
Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the Port of Chiba has a mild oceanic climate. It is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The warm "Black Current" prevents most frosts.
The Chiba City Museum of Art (Japanese) focuses on artwork in three areas: works related to the Boso Region, Japanese Edo-period paintings and woodblocks, and contemporary art. The museum building also houses a public library, restaurant, museum shop, and facilities for civic events.
In a corner at the soy sauce factory, the Kikkomaan Soy Sauce Museum tells the story of how soy sauce is made. Visitors can tour the museum's displays and watch soy sauce being made.
