The City and island of La Maddalena offer many beautiful beaches and coves. Frequent ferry connections link it to Palau during the summer. There are two popular campsites on the island that are within walking distance of the Port of La Maddalena and that offer facilities for tents and caravans. The campsites offer a restaurant, a bar, and a mini-market.
The sea is the dominant force in the beautiful and quaint Port of La Maddalena, and the Cala Gavetta is a popular area for enjoying the sea and the urban scene. In the downtown area, the Nino Lamboglia Museum is dedicated to underwater archaeology. A wonderful scenic road skirts the coastline on the island for some 20 kilometers.
The Parco Nazionale dell'Arcipelago di La Maddalena is Sardinia's first national park. Established in 1996, the park has welcomed thousands of visitors since it opened.
