For the most part, the City of Padang and the Port of Teluk Bayur are used as transit points for surfers going to the Batu or Mentawai Islands or tourists going to the West Sumatran highlands or Kerinci Seblat National Park. Padang Beach is popular, and it’s lined with food stalls. Bungus Bay to the south is good for swimming and boating. Don’t expect nightlife in this devout Muslim community.
