The City of Barry is primarily an industrial town and port, but Barry Island and nearby areas offer popular beaches that make it a seaside resort as well. The Glamorgan Heritage Coast west of town blesses visitors with breathtaking limestone cliffs lining secluded beaches that line the Bristol Channel.
West of Barry, Knap beach is miles long and more private and sedate than the popular beaches at Barry Island. Windsurfers prefer Knap beach, but visitors need to bring their own picnic.
Whitmore Bay is the main beach on Barry Island. With golden sands, the beach has a range of attractions including horse carriage rides, a promenade, and an amusement park.
