The City of Dunkirk is a popular seaside destination with wonderful beaches, great local cuisine, near-unlimited shopping, and many attractions for visitors. In the center of Dunkirk, visitors will find 400 shops, 60 restaurants, and an open air market.

Visitors to the Port of Dunkerque will want to see the Musee Portuaire with exhibits about the history and current port. The Musee des Beaux-Arts contains many paintings and sculptures from the Netherlands, Italy, and France. Each year in April, the Carnival of Dunkirk involves a traditional parade, concerts, and dances.

Being the site of a famous World War II battle, visitors can also tour the Dunkirk battlegrounds to learn about the famous evacuation of British troops in 1940.
