Port Said is a popular summer resort for Egyptians, and the beach boasts many vacation bungalows. Huge ocean-going vessels wait here to enter the Suez Canal, making it a great vantage point to watch these operations. Also of interest in Port Said is the 19th Century colonial architecture in the city center.
A National Museum in Port Said contains artifacts from the range of Egyptian history from prehistoric to pharaonic and the relatively modern past. It also contains Islamic and Coptic manuscripts and coins.
The Military Museum displays artifacts from pharaonic and Islamic wars and from the modern Suez Crisis and the wars of 1967 and 1973.
