Visitors will find several interesting and entertaining activities when they come to the City of Emden (German). The Otto Haus is a museum honoring the famous German comedian. The Kunsthalle Art Museum contains modern and contemporary art based on the private collection of German journalist Henri Nannen.
The Johannes a Lasco Library in the Grand Church is in old town Emden. This modern library also contains books from the 16th Century which were saved from the Gothic church (destroyed by bombing) upon which the site is built. The library also contains a number of paintings and a marble tomb left from the original church.
Hafenfest is a 3-day party originated by the East Frisians. Visitors will enjoy live music and entertainment, rides for children, and stalls that sell a variety of goods including local foods. When the weather is good, dragon boat races make the Hafenfest well worth the visit.
The Deutsche Bucht Museum is a large red ship that was built around the time of the First World War. Today, it’s a shipping museum open to the public between March and October.
