The City of Ludington owns and operates the Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina and maintains the 274-meter (900-foot) seawall within the Marina. Open from mid-April to mid-October, the Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina offers both seasonal and transient slips for rent. The Marina also offers day dockage of up to four hours for $5.
The Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina has 86 seasonal slips and 88 transient slips. Docks are from 9.1 to 18.3 meters (30 to 60 feet) long. There is broadside accommodation for vessels to 30.5 meters (100 feet) long. The depth of the Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina is about 2.1 meters (7 feet) at the entrance. Depths inside the marina will accommodate most boats.
The Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina has diesel fuel and 90-octane non-ethanol gasoline as well as 2- and 4-cycle oil. It operates a holding tank pump-out service. Fresh water and ice are available. The Marina also has soft drink machines for day users.
Over-night customers have the benefit of the protected deep-water Ludington Harbor with 152 piers and floating docks. The well-lit docks have electricity, fresh water, cable TV, and free WiFi.
The Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina offers two restroom and shower buildings, facilities for laundry and dish-washing, a picnic shelter with grills, a dog walk area, a gazebo, playground, amphitheater, and a paved walkway lined with benches. In addition to a fish-cleaning station, the Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina maintains a dayroom with cable TV, free wireless Internet, a public telephone, a microwave, and free coffee.
Seasonal dockage rates for 2012 in the Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina range from $2014 for a 30-foot boat to $5340 for a 60-foot boat. Transient dockage rates for visitors to Ludington Harbor range from $26 for a boat smaller than 7.6 meters (25 feet) for one night to $1512 for a 22.6-meter (74-foot) boat for 14 nights. Transient vessels 22.9 meters (75 feet) and above pay $1.46 per foot per night.
A public boat launch is located two blocks from the Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina, and a second public launch is on Pere Marquette Lake less than a kilometer (about one-half mile) from the Ludington Harbor Municipal Marina.
The City of Ludington Harbor owns, and Mohawk Transport Inc. operates the Ludington City Dock to receive agricultural limestone by self-unloading vessel. There is an open storage area at the rear of the Ludington Harbor City Dock with capacity for 20 thousand tons of stone. Located on Pere Marquette Lake, the Ludington Harbor City Dock has berthing space of 152.4 meters (500 feet) with alongside depth of 5.5 meters (18 feet).
Dow Chemical USA owns and operates the Ludington Harbor Plant East Wharf to ship liquid calcium chloride and to moor vessels. A six-inch pipeline connects the wharf to three calcium chloride storage tanks with capacity for 2.2 million gallons (over 8.2 thousand cubic meters). A fuel oil pipeline connects the Ludington Harbor Plant East Wharf to a 119 thousand barrel (14.2 thousand cubic meter) storage tank.
Mooring vessels can use some 457 meters (1.5 thousand feet) of berthing space along the natural bank to the east of the wharf. The Ludington Harbor Plant East Wharf is located on Pere Marquette Lake. It has berthing space of 167.6 meters (550 feet) with alongside depth of 8.5 meters (28 feet).
Dow Chemical USA also owns and operates the Ludington Harbor Plant West Wharf located on Pere Marquette Lake. The wharf is used to receive limestone by self-unloading vessel. Open storage at the rear of the Ludington Harbor Plant West Wharf can handle 500 thousand tons of limestone. The Ludington Harbor Plant West Wharf has berthing distance of 416.7 meters (1367 feet) with alongside depths of 27 and 23 meters (8.2 and 7 feet).
The Lake Michigan Carferry Service Inc. owns and operates the Ludington Harbor Carferry dock to moor idle car ferries. Also located on Pere Marquette Lake, the dock has berthing distance of 137.2 meters (450 feet) with alongside depth of 6.1 meters (20 feet).
The Lake Michigan Carferry Service Inc. also owns and operates the Ludington Harbor Slip as a landing for passenger and vehicular car ferries traveling to and from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The Ludington Harbor Slip is located on Pere Marquette Lake and has 76.2 meters (250 feet) of berthing space with alongside depth of 9.1 meters (30 feet).
Ludington Harbor Dock on Pere Marquette Lake is owned by Dow Chemical and operated by Sand Products Corporation to ship sand. It has open storage at the rear of the dock with capacity for 24.5 thousand tons of sand. The Ludington Harbor Dock has berthing space of 228.6 meters (750 feet) with alongside depth of 8.2 meters (27 feet).
