The Port of Channahon consists of privately-owned docks and port facilities.
The BASF Corporation owns and operates the Joliet Dock in the Port of Channahon to receive styrene. Rail tracks from the plant connect with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, and a pipeline connects the wharf to two storage tanks at the rear with total capacity for 5 million gallons. The Port of Channahon's Joliet Polystyrene Plant Dock has berthing space of 79.2 meters (260 feet) with alongside depth of 2.7 meters (9 feet) NPE.
Dow Chemical Company owns and operates several docks in the Port of Channahon. The Joliet Plant West Dock and East Docks are used to receive liquid chemicals. The West Dock is served by four rail tracks in the rear of the plant that connect with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway in the Port of Channahon. Four pipelines connect both West and East Docks to 11 storage tanks at the plant with total capacity for about 8.2 million gallons. Each of these Dow Chemical docks in the Port of Channahon has berthing space of 79.2 meters (260 feet) with alongside depth of 3.4 meters (11 feet) NPE.
Dow Chemical's Joliet Plant Styrene Dock in the Port of Channahon also has four surface rail tracks connecting with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, and a pipeline connects the wharf to two storage tanks with total capacity for 2.1 million gallons. This Dow Chemical Joliet Plant Styrene Dock in the Port of Channahon has berthing space of 59.4 meters (195 feet) with alongside depth of 3.4 meters (11 feet) NPE.
ExxonMobil Corporation owns the Midwest Plant Dock in the Port of Channahon, which is operated by IMTT-Channahon. Four surface rail tracks connect with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. Used to receive petroleum products and petrochemicals, the Midwest Plant Dock in the Port of Channahon has twenty-two pipelines connect the wharf to 48 storage tanks with total capacity for 680 thousand barrels. This Port of Channahon dock has berthing space of 172.8 meters (567 feet) with alongside depth of 3 meters (10 feet) NPE.
The ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company Wharf in the Port of Channahon is used to ship petroleum coke and to ship and receive petroleum products. Plant rail tracks connect with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and the Canadian National Railroad. An open storage area at the refinery at the rear of the wharf can handle 25 thousand tons of petroleum coke.
Seven pipelines connect this Port of Channahon wharf to 15 storage tanks with total capacity for 1.8 million barrels of petroleum products or petrochemicals. One pipeline connects the ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company Wharf to a 420 thousand gallon capacity tank for spent caustic soda. One pipeline connects to a 210 thousand gallon ballast tank. This Port of Channahon wharf is also equipped with steam and condensate pipelines. The ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company Wharf in the Port of Channahon has berthing space of 387.1 meters (1270 feet) with alongside depth of 3 meters (10 feet) NPE.
Illinois Marine Towing, Inc. operates the Myers Slip in the Port of Channahon. Owned by John Vick to receive bark mulch and moor barges for fleeting, the Myers Slip has about 25 acres of open storage at the rear. The fleeting area has capacity for four barges in the slip and 12 barges along the neighboring river bank. The Myers Slip in the Port of Channahon has alongside depth of 1.5 meters (5 feet).
Interstate Chemical Company Inc. owns and operates the Alpont Terminal Dock in the Port of Channahon to receive caustic soda, methanol, acetone, and isopropyl alcohol. This Port of Channahon dock is connected by six pipelines to six storage tanks at the rear with total capacity for 7.4 million gallons, and it is also equipped with a steam line. This Port of Channahon dock has berthing space of 45.7 meters (150 feet) with alongside depth of 3 meters (10 feet) NPE.
Materials Distribution Inc. owns and operates its own docks in the Port of Channahon to receive liquid fertilizer and dry bulk materials that include sand, gravel, and fertilizer. A pipeline stretches from the river face to two storage tanks with total capacity for 500 thousand gallons of liquid fertilizer. At the rear of the Port of Channahon's Material Distribution Docks are about 20 acres of open storage area. These Port of Channahon docks have berthing space of 45.7 meters (150 feet) with alongside depth of 1.8 meters (6 feet) NPE.
Although it is not in use today, Loders Croklaan has berthing space of 59.4 meters (195 feet) with alongside depth of 2.7 meters (9 feet) NPE at the Port of Channahon's Joliet Plant Dock. One inactive pipeline connects the wharf to 10 storage tanks with total capacity for 2.6 million gallons of vegetable oil.
