Part of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway transportation network, the Port of Guntersville is an industrial port that handles a wide range of cargoes and has access to 23 States as well as the Gulf of Mexico. The Port of Guntersville Flexible Barge Terminal has more than 4.5 acres of dry storage space.
American Commercial Terminals, Inc., a unit of CSX, owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Caustic Dock to handle chemicals and related products. With two surface rail tracks connecting it with CSX Transportation, the wharf receives liquid caustic soda. The wharf is also equipped with one 6-inch pipeline connected to a 15.8-thousand barrel storage tank at the rear of the wharf. The Port of Guntersville Caustic Dock has berthing distance of 61 meters (200 feet) with alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet).
American Commercial Terminals also owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Steel Dock. Handling iron ore, iron and steel, and waste and scrap, the wharf is used primarily for receiving and shipping pig iron and shredded metal. The wharf has two surface rail tracks that connect with CSX Transportation. The Steel Dock has an almost half-acre storage warehouse and about two acres of open storage area at the rear of the dock. The Port of Guntersville Steel Dock has berthing distance of 122 meters (400 feet) and alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet).
American Commercial Terminals owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Bulk-Handling Dock and Terminal. Facilities include the dock, mooring cells, clam buckets, mobile crane, and an outdoor storage area. The facility is used to transfer general bulk freight, including iron ore, scrap iron, coal, coke, and petroleum. The Port of Guntersville Bulk Handling Terminal is served by the CSX railway and has about two acres of open storage area. The Port of Guntersville Bulk-Handling Dock has berthing distance of 73.2 meters (240 feet) with alongside depth of 3 meters (10 feet).
The Great Combine, Inc. owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Grain Transfer Wharf. With berthing distance of 83.8 meters (275 feet) and alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet), there is a grain transfer station at the rear of the wharf with total capacity for 110 thousand bushels of grain. The transfer station includes four concrete silos and five steel tanks, and it is supplied by truck from a grain elevator located in the rear of the transfer station.
Amoco Oil Company owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Lube Plant Dock, which receives lubricating oil base stock. The Dock is served by one three-car capacity surface track that connects with CSC Transportation. One 4-inch pipeline connects the dock to five storage tanks at the rear of the dock with capacity for 33.3 thousand barrels of lubricating oil base stock. A building at the rear houses blending facilities and storage space for three thousand 55-gallon drums, 25 thousand cases of canned lubricating oil, and eighty-five hundred 5-gallon buckets. The Port of Guntersville Lube Plant Dock has berthing distance of 45.7 meters (150 feet) and alongside depth of 5.2 meters (17 feet).
Cargill Marketing Company owns and operates the Port of Guntersville North Wharves that handles food and farm products. The North Wharves receive and ship grains. They have two surface tracks connecting with CSX Transportation that serve an undertrack pit with a loading spout. The grain elevator at the rear of the North Wharves is made up of eight concrete silos with five interstices and eight steel tanks. The grain elevator can handle up to 220 thousand bushels. Barges moor four-abreast at the dolphins. The Port of Guntersville North Wharves offer 88.4 meters (290 feet) of berthing space and alongside depth of 4 meters (13 feet).
Cargill Marketing Company also owns and operates the Port of Guntersville South Wharves to handle food and farm products. Shipping and receiving grain, the South Wharves have one surface track connected with CSX Transportation that serves an undertrack pit with loading spout. The grain elevator at the rear of the wharves has capacity for 550 thousand bushels and is made up of a timber-crib house with 12 bins and four steel tanks. The Port of Guntersville South Wharves offer berthing distance of 816 meters (610 feet) with alongside depth of 6.1 meters (20 feet).
Cargill North America Oilseed Processing Company owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Marine-Leg Dock to handle oilseeds like soybean and flaxseed. The dock is used to receive grain, and it has two 13-car surface tracks that serve the grain elevator and two serving feed mills. The tracks are connected with CSX Transportation. Thirty concrete silos with 15 interstices make up the 3-million-bushel-capacity grain elevator at the rear of the dock. The Port of Guntersville Marine-Leg Dock has 59.4 meters (195 feet) of berthing distance with alongside depth of 3.4 meters (11 feet).
The Port of Guntersville Shipping Dock owned and operated by Cargill North American Oilseed Processing Company handles food and agricultural products. Used primarily to ship soybean oil, meal, and husks, the dock is served by two 13-car-capacity tracks connected to the grain elevator and two six-car-capacity tracks serving the steel mill. The service tracks connect with CSX Transportation. The storage building at the rear of the dock can handle up to 7 thousand tons of soybean meal. A 6-inch pipeline connects the wharf to five steel storage tanks with total capacity for 765 thousand gallons. The Port of Guntersville Shipping Dock has berthing distance of 61 meters (200 feet) and alongside depth of 3.4 meters (11 feet).
Bowater Woodlands, Inc. operates a portion of the Port of Guntersville Dock. Designed for handling forest products, lumber, logs, and woodchips, the Bowater part of the Guntersville Dock is used to ship woodchips. An open storage area at the rear of the dock has capacity for 11 thousand cords of woodchips. The Bowater Woodlands area of the Port of Guntersville Dock has berthing distance of 228.6 meters (750 feet) with alongside depth of 3.4 meters (11 feet).
Consolidated Blenders, Inc. also operates a portion of the Port of Guntersville Dock. The Consolidated Blenders part of the Guntersville Dock is designed to handle food and farm products, and Consolidated Blenders receives alfalfa, corn, oats, and fish meal here. At the rear of the dock is a 30-thousand-ton capacity alfalfa storage elevator that is made up of 33 concrete storage silos. There is also a 48.8- by 15.3-meter (160- by 60-foot) warehouse at the rear of the dock that can handle up to three thousand tons of fish meal. The Consolidated Blenders portion of the Port of Guntersville Dock has berthing distance of 57.9 meters (190 feet) with alongside depth of 4.6 meters (15 feet).
Gold Kist, Inc. owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Feed-Mill Dock and the Port of Guntersville Poultry-Feed Mill Dock. The Feed-Mill dock receives corn and has two surface tracks that serve undertrack pits at the rear grain elevator and are connected to CSX Transportation. The grain elevator, consisting of eight concrete silos, has capacity for 100 thousand bushels of corn The Port of Guntersville Feed-Mill Dock offers berthing distance of 176.8 meters (580 feet) with alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet).
The Port of Guntersville Poultry-Feed Mill Dock receives grain. It has one five-car capacity surface track that serves an undertrack pit in the rear and connects with CSX Transportation. The grain elevator at the rear consists of 13 concrete silos and four steel tanks and has a total capacity for 850 thousand bushels. The Port of Guntersville Poultry-Feed Mill Dock owned and operated by Gold Kist has berthing distance of 121.9 meters (400 feet) with alongside depth of 3.7 meters (12 feet).
Guntersville Marine, Inc., Harbor Service owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Marine East Dock to receive bulk cargoes like logs and pulpwood and to moor barges for fleeting. The East Dock has open storage at the rear with capacity for about 40 thousand tons of cargo. The Port of Guntersville East Dock has berthing space of 172.2 meters (565 feet) with alongside depth of 2.7 meters (9 feet).
Guntersville Marine., Inc., Harbor Service also owns and operates the Port of Guntersville Marine, West Dock where it receives and ships bulk cargo like coal, coke, grain, meal, bauxite, and fish meal. It also receives steel products and moors barges and towboats. The bank at the west end can accommodate ten barges, and a second area at the rear has capacity for about 40 thousand tons of cargo. The berthing distance of the Port of Guntersville Marine West Dock is 88.4 meters (290 feet), and the alongside depth is 2.1 meters (7 feet).
