The Port of Tenakee Springs can be reached only by sea or air. Seaplanes and the Alaska Marine Highway are the major transportation for the Port of Tenakee Springs. The State of Alaska owns the seaplane dock and a heliport.

Float planes provide air transport to and from Sitka and Juneau on regularly scheduled and chartered flights. The state ferry only serves passengers because the Port of Tenakee Springs has no vehicle landings or local roads.

Barges bring cargo and fuel to the Port of Tenakee Springs every couple of months. The Port of Tenakee Springs' facilities include a small boat harbor and the ferry terminal. The city also owns a fuel dock.

In this community where the main street is just five kilometers (three miles) long, local transportation is accomplished mainly on bicycles or ATVs.
