The Administracion Portuaria Integral de Coatzacoalcos, S.A. de C.V. is the port authority responsible for managing and operating the Port of Coatzacoalcos. The Port of Coatzacoalcos’s outer ship canal is 1120 kilometers long and 15 meters deep. The inner ship canal is 3320 kilometers long and 15 meters deep. The turning basin is 300 meters in diameter with a depth of 11.5 meters. Commercial docks are a total of 2920 kilometers long with depths ranging from 11 to 12.2 meters.
In 2008, 90 vessels visited the Port of Coatzacoalcos carrying over 411 thousand tons of cargo, including 155.7 thousand tons of fluids, 101.1 thousand tons of mineral bulk, 68.1 thousand tons of general cargo, 56.3 thousand tons of inter-modal cargoes, and 30.0 thousand tons of agribulk.
The Port of Coatzacoalcos contains four major terminals. Pemex (Petroleos Mexicanos) operates the Pajaritos Terminal; API de Coatzacoalcos, SA de CV, the port authority, operates the commercial terminal and wharves; Troy Industries SA de CV operates their own terminal; and Agronitrogenados SA de CV operates the Agrochemical Terminal. Many of the berths have different length restrictions for vessels anchoring during the day and night.
In the Port of Coatzacoalcos, Pemex operates 13 berths handling liquid bulk products. Berth 1-E can accommodate vessels to 20 thousand DWT and 170 meters in length with 10.7 meters draft and has capacity to pump from 200 to 3800 barrels per hour, depending on the product. Berth 1-E handles ethylene, butanes, VCM, methanol, and DEG.
Berth 1-W in the Port of Coatzacoalcos can accommodate vessels to 180 meters during the day and up to 20 thousand DWT with 10.7 meters draft. It can pump from 200 to 3500 barrels per hour. Berth 1-W handles ammonia, paraxylene, benzene, MtBE, xylene, VCM, butanes, DEG, and methanol.
Berth 2-E can accommodate vessels to 230 meters long and 40 thousand DWT with 11.9 meters draft and has capacity to pump from 100 to 1000 metric tons per hour, depending on the product. The Port of Coatzacoalcos’s Berth 2-E handles liquefied petroleum gas, butanes, ammonia, gasolines, and nitrogen.
Pemex’s Port of Coatzacoalcos Berth 2-W handles vessels to 40 thousand DWT and 230 meters in length with draft of 11 meters. With capacity to pump from 100 to 1000 metric tons per hour, Berth 2-W handles liquefied petroleum gas, butanes, ammonia, toluenes, and gasolines.
Berth 3-E can accommodate vessels to 240 meters by day and up to 60 thousand DWT with 11.9 meters draft. With capacity to pump 7.5 to 28 thousand barrels per hour at the Port of Coatzacoalcos, Pemex’s Berth 3-E handles petrochemicals, crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas, and clean products.
Berth 3-in the Port of Coatzacoalcos W can support vessels to 250 meters long by day with 11.9 meters draft and up to 80 thousand DWT. With capacity to pump from 100 to 1000 metric tons per hour, berth 3-W handles petrochemicals, crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas, clean products, NH3, and propane.
Berth 4-E accommodates vessels to 80 thousand DWT and 250 meters length by day with 11.9 meters draft. Pumping from 6 thousand to 28 thousand barrels per hour, the Port of Coatzacoalcos’s Pemex Berth 4-E handles petrochemicals, crude oil, and clean products.
Pemex Berth 4-W at the Port of Coatzacoalcos supports vessels to 80 thousand DWT and 230 meters length by day and draft of 11.9 meters. Berth 4-W can pump from 6 thousand to 25 thousand barrels of petrochemicals, crude oil, or clean products per hour.
The Port of Coatzacoalcos’s Pemex Berth 5-M accommodates vessels to 60 thousand DWT and 210 meters length and draft of 11.9 meters. Berth 5-M can pump from 3 thousand to 18 thousand barrels of petrochemicals, crude oil, or clean products per hour.
Berth 6-M handles vessels to 80 thousand DWT and 250 meters length by day with draft of 11.9 meters. With capacity to pump from 10- to 42-thousand barrels per hour, it handles crude oil, pentanes, and jet fuel for the Port of Coatzacoalcos.
Pemex’s Berths 7-E and 7-W in the Port of Coatzacoalcos can support vessels to 85 thousand DWT and 250 meters in length by day and draft of 11.9 meters. Berth 7-E can pump 40 thousand barrels of crude oil per hour.
Pemex’s Berth 9-E at the Port of Coatzacoalcos, with capacity to pump 300 metric tons of propylene per hour, can accommodate vessels to 85 thousand DWT with length of 250 meters by day and draft of 11.9 meters.
API de Coatzacoalcos S.A. de C.V. operates eight berths at the Port of Coatzacoalcos. Handling grains, minerals, and general cargoes, Berths RFA-1, -2, -3, and -4 can accommodate vessels to 185 meters long with 9.7 meters draft. Serving the same size vessels, Berths RFA-5, -7, and 8 also handle petrochemicals, as does Berth RFA-6 which can accommodate vessels to 190 meters long.
Troy Industrias S.A. de C.V. operates two berths at the Port of Coatzacoalcos, both of which can accommodate vessels to 235 meters long by day with 10.4 meters draft. The Troy berths handle fertilizers, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and TSP.
The Port of Coatzacoalcos has ample cargo storage areas. The consolidation warehouse is at the western side of the port. Warehouses 2, 3, 4, and 7 are located at the waterfront with the docks. Warehouses 5 and 6, for multiple uses, are located in the rear of the Port of Coatzacoalcos. The container yard is near the waterfront behind warehouse 4, and several open yards are available thorough port facilities.
