Port of Akita
Port Commerce

In 1999, a long-distance ferry service began operating in the Port of Akita to move passengers between the city and Tsuruga and the Ports of Tomakomai and Niigata.

Also in 1999, the Port of Akita established a shipping route with the Port of Posyet in Russia, significantly reducing the travel time to Far Eastern Russia and Northeast China. The Akita Prefecture opened an office to promote trade in the Port of Dalian, China. This route was added to the existing trade route with Korea.

A major hub for distribution in the Japan Sea, the Port of Akita is well-equipped to handle a range of imports and exports and to support the region’s business and trade. The Port of Akita strives to work with private companies to strengthen its base for trade within Japan and with other countries in the Sea of Japan region.
