At the beginning of the 21st Century, the Port of Bayonne consisted of four major zones including Bayonne, Boucau-Tarnos, Blancpignon, and St. Bernard. The port accounted for three thousand jobs in the Port of Bayonne, making it a major contributor to the local economy.
The Zone of Boucau-Tarnos handles solid and liquid bulk cargoes and steel products. The solid bulk quay is 400 meters long with alongside depths from 8.5 to 10 meters. The quay for liquid bulk cargoes is 190 meters long with alongside depth of 10 meters. The steel works quay is 367 long, with an additional 50 meters for imports and 170 meters for exports with alongside depth of 10 meters.
Cargoes of manure are handled at the Tarnos quays. The manure quay is 440 meters long with alongside depths from 8.5 to 10 meters. Exotic Barks are handled at St. Bernard, where the quay is 128.5 meters long with alongside depth of 7 meters. Corn (maize) cargoes are also handled in the Zone of Boucau-Tarnos at a 185-meter quay with alongside depth of 7 meters.
Refined hydrocarbon cargoes are handled at the European quay and at the Saint-Gobain wharf in Boucau. The Saint-Gobain Wharf is 210 meters long with alongside depth of 9 meters.
Wood cargoes are handled at the downstream quay of Tarnos, the right bank, and the Armand Gomez Quay in the Zone of Blancpignon. The Tarnos wood quay is 180 meters long with alongside depth of 8.5 meters. The Armand Gomez Quay is 200 meters long with alongside depth of 7 meters. Cement cargoes are handled at an Armand Gomez Quay 170-meter berth with alongside depth of 8.35 meters. Foodstuffs are also handled at an Armand Gomez Quay 170-meter berth with alongside depth of 8.35 meters.
The Zone of Blancpignon is located on the left bank and includes the Edmond Foy Quay, a dry dock, the Armand Gomez Quay, and the Edouard-Manor House Wharf. Total quay length is 765 meters and alongside depths range from 5.5 meters to 8.35 meters.
Sulfur is handled at the Edouard-Manor house wharf and quay in the Zone of Blancpignon. The quay is 170 meters long with alongside depth of 8.35 meters. The upstream sulfur quay is 195 meters long with alongside depth of 8.35 meters.
The Zone of St. Bernard is located on the right bank, upstream port. The wharf is 128 meters long with alongside depth of 7 meters. The zone includes 17 thousand square meters of quay-level storage.
Cruise ships calling at the Port of Bayonne use the Edmond-Foy Quay near the town center. The Quay is 150 meters long with alongside depth of 5.5 meters and includes a six thousand square meter reception area.
